Different Kinds Of Cheap Tanning Lotions

By Haywood Hunter

Spending money on protecting the skin from the damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be an expensive business. Whether you are topping up your tan beside the swimming pool, spending a few minutes in a salon on your way home from work or using a sunless product, costs add up quickly. Isn't it wonderful that it is possible to look around for reputable brands of cheap tanning lotions.

Specific situations require specific solutions. Outdoors, it is necessary to use cheap tanning lotions that provide protection from the sun's harmful UV rays. These come in different strengths and provide different levels of protection as indicated by their sun protection factor (SPF). The higher the SPF, the more time the user is able to safely stay in the sun. For those people who do not desire such protection, cheap tanning lotions exist that actively serve to attract sunlight to the skin's surface to accelerate tanning.

Parents should always ensure that small children and babies are protected by high-SPF cheap tanning lotions when playing in the sun. Anybody with freckles or pale skin is also susceptible to damage from UV rays and should also wear a product with a high SPF rating. Skin cancer is becoming more common, so everyone should consider using even low-SPF cheap tanning lotions for some of the time when they are out in the sun or at a suntan salon.

Some people prefer to work on their suntan indoors on a special bed or in a booth at a salon. They need to use special cheap tanning lotions that are formulated for this purpose. These contain mainly melanin, which is a dark pigment that the ski produces naturally to prevent the oversynthesis of Vitamin D in response to sunlight.

Cheap tanning lotions that are formulated for indoor use do not contain sunscreen. Consequently, they are not suitable for use in natural sunlight. Another way they promote tanning is by increasing the rate of blood flow to the skin's surface.

Some of the ingredients used in indoor cheap tanning lotions are L-tyrosine and melanin. L-tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid. Extracts of green tea, copper and tea oil may also be found in these products. It should be noted that tanning beds all use a protective shield made from 100 per cent acrylic. The types of oils that are found in cheap tanning lotions designed for use when working on an outdoor suntan damage this acrylic surface and should not be used indoors for this very reason.

There are also products available that help the user mimic the appearance of a suntan without exposing themselves to harmful UV rays from the sun or from an indoor source. These cheap tanning lotions are gaining popularity as reports linking UV exposure to skin cancer and other types of damage continue to appear in the popular press. Many of these products use carotenoids, chemicals that occur naturally in fruits and vegetables, especially carrots.

Lycopene is one carotenoid that is safe at the doses used in sunless cheap tanning lotions. It may even have a protective effect against certain cancers. Products for all situations may be found as cheap tanning lotions. The preceding article is intended for information only and should not be interpreted as medical advice.
