This type of treatment is favorable for those individuals who suffer from wrinkles, acne or even lines on their faces. The idea behind this is to leave their skin appearing younger than their age. This may be brought about by aging factors, long hours of exposure to the sun or other conditions. In connection to this, the following is information on laser resurfacing treatments.

This treatment is done by removing layer after layer of the bad skin. When this is done, the new cells which are formed transform the skin making it look tighter and healthier. Depending on the amount of work that needs to be done, it can be carried out alone or in combination with other types of surgeries.

It is important for the patients to first consult with their doctors as to whether they are fit to have this procedure carried out on them or not. For the right decision to be made by these doctors, the patients are required to reveal whether they are prone to cold sores or blisters. This is because the treatment may cause breakouts in persons with sensitive skin.

After consultation has been done and the patient decided to carry on with the treatment, they are advised to cut off any medications such as aspirin. This is because they interfere with the process of clotting. Also, individuals are instructed to quit smoking two weeks before and after the surgery is done as it slows done the healing process.

It is important to note that this is an outpatient procedure. This means that the patient is free to go home once the procedure is complete. It may be done on just parts of the face such as the wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead. This just requires numbing the specific areas and it takes one hour. If the procedure is meant for the entire face, then a general anesthesia had to be administered. This takes a maximum of two hours to be complete.

The treated areas are usually bandaged after the procedure is done. After a period of twenty-four hours, the bandages should be removed and the areas cleaned four to five times a day. Ointment is then applied to avoid the formation of scabs. It is important to note that swelling is absolutely normal in this case. It may however be reduced if one sleeps on an extra pillow at night.

It is common for the patients to feel some itchiness for up to three days after undertaking the surgical procedure. In addition to that, the skin may peel from time to time. The entire healing process also may take ten to twenty-one days, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Once healed, the patients are advised to use oil-free makeup to reduce the redness on the skin, which may disappear after three months.

In conclusion, this laser resurfacing treatment may not give one a perfect skin, but it leaves them looking better than they did prior to the surgery. The associated risks of this procedure include burns, scarring of the skin and uneven pigmentation. This is why it is important to seek a doctor's approval before the procedure is undertaken.
