Achieve Silky Straightened Hair With Brazilian Keratin Treatment

By Joanna Walsh

Variety in hairstyles is one of the ways for people to enhance their appearance and try new fashion trends. One of the more popular ways to make your hair contribute to a new look is to straighten it if it is curly or wavy. With the Brazilian Keratin treatment, people with curly hair can achieve the bone straight look.

The origin of this hair straightening method is indicated clearly in its name. The creator of the styling method drew her inspiration from the methods of hair straightening she saw in Brazil. The Brazilian methods included gradual application of heat using a blow dryer which resulted in the temporary removal of the curls.

The system that grew out of that involves four steps with a combination of Keratin solution and heat application. Each is designed to add to the sleek bone straight look that results after the process is completed. A kit is provided along with instructions to help users to apply the techniques.

The initiating step in the process is a cleansing action. A clarifying shampoo should be used to wash the hair. The shampoo should be worked into the hair and left on it for about two minutes. After the shampoo is rinsed away a conditioner should not be used. The excess moisture in the hair should then be removed using a dry towel.

The second step involves the application of the keratin solution. Gloves must be worn during this step of the treatment. Before application, the container with the solution should be shaken vigorously. Small portions of the solution should be placed in a bowl and a tint brush should be sued to apply the solution to the hair starting at a half of an inch away from the root.

After the treatment has been allowed enough time to penetrate the hair, and this usually takes between ten to fifteen minutes, it is time for the third step. This step includes the application of heat using a blow dryer. A round brush or a paddle brush is used to assist the process.

The final step is known as the sealing step as it is during this step that the treatment is sealed onto the hair strands. It is very important during this stage to use the heat level that suits your hair type. The flat iron is used to straighten the strands of hair starting at the nape and repeating the process several times for each section. Once this is finished, treated hair must be kept away from water for at about two days.

Despite the magnificent results though, Brazilian Keratin treated hair should be viewed as temporarily straightened hair. This means understanding that treated hair will gradually return to a wavy or curly state. This reverting process is heightened by moisture and chemicals such chlorine and the salt in sea water. Treated hair should therefore be rinsed with plain water soon after it has been immersed in pool or sea water.
