Dermatology is a field in medicine that deals with the treatment of conditions affecting hair, skin and nail diseases. People who major in dermatology are known as dermatologists. Although dermatology is a field in medicine and surgery, it also has its sub-branches where dermatologists specialize in treating various cosmetic problems, which affect the skin, nails, scalp and hair.

In dermatology, people can specialize in derma pathology, cosmetic dermatology, immune dermatology, Mohs surgery, teledermatology or pediatric dermatology. In these fields, they specialize in diseases related with hair, skin and nails, come up with solutions on how these diseases can be treated, and cause less or no harm at all to patients.

Cosmetic dermatologists have been leaders in the dermatology since they aim at improving how a person looks. They train on how to use fillers, Botox and hair removal surgery. They also perform procedures related with cosmetics such as face-lifts and liposuction. They offer medications for the skin to prevent damage from chronic exposure, weather, age and life style.

Another field in dermatology is derma pathology. For you to qualify to be a dermapathologist, you need to first complete one-year study of dermatology before proceeding for six months to study pathology. The first year you will do a dermatology fellowship before doing pathology.

Immunodermatology is the other field in dermatology and those who qualify in it are known as immune dermatologists. They treat immune related diseases, which affect the skin as an organ of immunity such as bilious pemphigoid, pemhigus vulgarism, lip us, dermatitis, atopic eczema, vitriol, psoriasis, leprosy and other skin diseases. They take keen interest on some areas like photo-immunology.

A dermatologist can also specialize in Mohs surgery that deals with excision of skin cancer using a technique known as sparing. This allows the intraoperative assessment of deep and peripheral tumor margins. Trained physicians who are supposed to be comfortable in both pathology and surgery only do processing of the CCPDMA procedure. Most physicians receive training about Mohs surgery during g dermatology residency while others join American society of Mohs surgery or programs administered by American college of mohs surgery.

A physician can also qualify to be a pediatric dermatologist by simply completing dermatology and a pediatric residency program or complete a post fellowship program. In pediatric dermatology, dermatologists deal with treatment of diseases such as hereditary skin disorders, neonates, psoriasis, vitiligo, skin disorders that a child is born with, warts and other difficulties of a pediatric population. Most pediatric dermatologists specialize in diagnosing and treating children, including newborn and infants up to their adolescent stage.

Teledermatology is another field in dermatology that involves the use of telecommunication devices to exchange information over long distances. Teledermatologist deals with view of the skin conditions over long distances to exchange knowledge and establish second opinion services for experts or even use technology to follow up in treating individuals affected by chronic skin diseases. A teledermatologist can reduce time wastage for a dermatologist by allowing them to treat minor conditions online whereas serious conditions are given priority of appointments with specific specialists.
